Objective To investigate the need of anesthesia information in preoperative patients and provide basis for clinical work. Methods Questionnaires were sent to patients before elective surgery to ask about their need for anesthesia information and delivery methods. Results 92.8% of 400 preoperative patients wished to receive anesthesia education, 81.8% expected anesthesia visit and 73.5% expected anesthesia preoperative clinic. What patients most want to know is the precautions before and after anesthesia, the method of postoperative pain relief and the choice of anesthesia (> 85%). Expectations of being in the higher education group were significantly higher than those in the higher education group (97.0% vs 88.7%, P <0.05). The information sought was provided in brochures (67.3%) and videos (37.8%). Patients in group H more favored brochures (75.1% vs 59.6%, P = 0.001) than group L did. Conclusion There is a high demand for anesthesia information in preoperative patients, which can be selected according to the characteristics of patients.
