在当前经济社会快速发展进程中,教育出现了过分功利化的倾向,忽视了必要的社会价值追求,淡化甚至漠视教育的社会责任。培养出来的学生社会责任意识淡薄、惟利是图、心胸狭隘、缺乏公德意识。老师在高考的指挥棒下更是很少关注和思考教育的深层问题。教育具有维护社会稳定,并进而减少愚昧、迷信、贫困、暴力、犯罪、歧视、压迫、不平等、不公正等现象,从而促进社会的繁荣和发展的功能。应该把培养人的理性精神作为教育培养人的重要内容之一,只有当一个人具有良好的理性修养,才有可能学会善待他人、宽容他人、学会自我克制、学会退让和妥协;而一个国家只有当其国民有良好的理性修养,才能避免流血冲突、情绪发泄的肆意破坏和无序竞争。理性是自由的前提和条件。
