On January 17, 1995, a dense earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale in the densely populated Kansai area of Japan spread to 14 prefectures and was the worst earthquake that Japan suffered since the Second World War. According to the survey data provided by the Japan Police Agency, 5250 people were killed, 26,804 were injured by the end of April 1995, 107,610 buildings were destroyed or severely damaged, and 310,000 people lost their lives
