Schweitzer.Mauduit, the world’s largest cigarette paper merchant, is expanding into South America. The former company of Schweitzer-Mauduit was the cigarette and special paper section of Kimberiy-Clark, which was later stripped. In order to implement the long-term growth strategy plan, Schweitzer Maudut will acquire 100% of Brazilian Pirahy Corporation for US$62 million, and it has a production base in South America. Pirahy is Brazil’s first specialty paper merchant. Its main products are cigarette paper, coated and uncoated printing paper, label paper and release paper and other special technical papers. Its annual production capacity is 63,000 tons, which is the largest in South America. Cigarette paper suppliers account for 47% of South American cigarette paper market share.
