译官是唐王朝对外交往中设置的通晓“蕃语”的翻译人员。在中央,参与涉外事务的中书省和鸿胪寺设有译语人员;在地方,缘边州府由于执行对外交涉,行使对外权利,因而也有专门的翻译人员。在楚州地区,中央王朝还设有新罗译语,为入唐的新罗人和日本人提供翻译和接待等事宜;除了语言翻译以外,译官也参与导引宾客和接待使节的礼仪事务;有时还衔纳王命,出使外国,了解蕃情,并招引周边四夷入唐通好,在唐代的对外交往中起着十分重要的作用。
The translator is a translator familiar with the “foreign languages” set up in the foreign affairs of the Tang Dynasty. In the Central Government, the Zhongshu Province and Hongjue Temple, which are involved in foreign affairs, have translators; at the local level, the prefectural border government exercised external rights due to the execution of external negotiations and therefore also specialized translators. In the Chuzhou area, the Central Government dynasty also provided translations of Silla, translators and receptions for Silla and Japanese in the Tang Dynasty. In addition to language translation, the translator also took part in ceremonial affairs that guided guests and envoys; In some cases, he also took the king’s life, went abroad to learn about the romance, and drew the four surrounding mountains into the Tang Dynasty. He played a very important role in the foreign exchanges in the Tang Dynasty.
