艺术的平民化,即艺术不再被王公贵族或艺术天才等少数人垄断,而是被大众所广泛熟知、观赏、学习甚至从事。因产业革命的发展艺术生长土壤迎来了史无前例的肥沃时期。这一问题的尖锐性随印刷技术的进步而愈加凸显,在波普艺术兴起之时就已被广泛讨论过。本雅明的《机械复制时代的艺术》一书中就表明了因技术进步而导致的艺术容易被复制、传播所带来的艺术平民化、或称大众化发展会使艺术丧失其“光韵”。在若干年后的今天,即处在信息高度发达的互联网及全球化时代来讨论艺术的平民化问题,究其根本是思考科技的发展究竟能对艺术产生怎样的推动与影响,以及两者之间所存关系。
