Translatability of literary works has always been one of the focuses of translation theory and also the theoretical basis of literary translation. As to whether literary works can be translated, Mr. Zheng Zhenduo once gave affirmative answers, but he also considered it as a very difficult task to translate literary works to translators. It required “excellent translators of art.” According to his point of view, this paper analyzes the characteristics of literary translation from three aspects: translator, literal translation and poetry translation. From these characteristics, it explains why the academic circles have been controversial in the translatability of literary works.
