Objective To understand the quality of sleep of college students and to provide a theoretical basis for formulating the health care policy of implementing mental health education. Methods The sleep quality was evaluated by sleep status self-rating scale. The survey information was analyzed by SPSS 13.0. Results The scores of dyskinesia and insomnia reaction were higher in girls than in boys (t = 2.593, -3.176; P <0.01). The scores of sleep quality, lack of awakening, sleep time and total score were higher in the upper grade group than in the lower grade group (t = -1.975, -5.155, -2.798, -2.719; P <0.05 or P <0.01). The score of sleep time was higher in clinical majors, followed by other majors and lower in nursing majors (F = 3.019, P = 0.05). Conclusions Female students have difficulty in falling asleep more than boys, and girls feel worse after insomnia. Compared with lower grades, girls have poorer quality of sleep, more likely to fall asleep during daytime, shorter sleep time, and different professional sleep durations.
