Some scholars have put forward some hypotheses about the synthesis mechanism of low-carbon mixed alcohols, such as the idea of Graves and the models of Smith and Anderson. Some of these hypotheses have been validated experimentally and successfully describe the distribution of the products on the catalyst. However, no research on the synthesis mechanism of the system has been reported for molybdenum sulfide-based catalysts due to the late development. Schulz-Flory equation (S-F equation) is used to explain the distribution of Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon product. We investigated the characteristics of the alcohol product distribution on molybdenum sulfide catalysts, and found that the distribution of alcohols was in accordance with the S-F distribution law and introduced the S-F equation suitable for alcohol distribution.
