“重复”是米勒解构小说批评的核心概念。米勒认为凡在文本中出现两次以上的相同或相近事例都可以称作重复。从这个角度看,任何一部小说都是一个复杂的由重复、重复中的重复、以链条的形式与其它重复形成链形联系重复组成的编织体。米勒对“重复”概念的这一界定打破了单一文本的界限,向作者、读者、社会开放,米勒进而认定,重复在确定意义的同时也取消了意义的确定性,因此文本自我消解。
