Objective To evaluate the significance of Eales’s disease in retinal photocoagulation before vitrectomy. Methods The Eales’ patients and 130 eyes (141 eyes) hospitalized in PLA General Hospital from 1995 to 2004 were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent vitrectomy, ranging in age from 18 to 45 years (average, 285) Follow-up 48 August. According to whether preoperative retinal photocoagulation was divided into laser treatment group (32 eyes) and no laser treatment group (109 eyes), the postoperative complications, postoperative visual acuity and retinal reattachment were compared . Results There were 2 eyes (62.5%) in the laser treatment group, 5 eyes (15.62%) in the postoperative complications, 24 eyes (22.02%) in the non - laser treatment group, Postoperative complications occurred in 37 eyes (33 94%). In 73 eyes with retinal detachment, 59 eyes (80 82%) were successful in the surgical procedure, 20 eyes (95 2 4%) were successfully restored in the laser treatment group and 39 eyes (75 0 0) in the non-laser treatment group %). The postoperative visual acuity of the laser treatment group was significantly improved, and the visual acuity of the laser treatment group was improved. Statistical analysis showed significant differences. Conclusion Argon laser photocoagulation is an effective method to treat Eales ’disease. If laser photocoagulation is performed before vitrectomy, the prognosis of surgery is significantly better than that of Eales’ patients without laser treatment. It is recommended that argon laser retinal photocoagulation be used whenever possible in patients with early Eales disease.
