20世纪初,中国时局晦明不定,社会动荡不安,苦闷至极的严复开始手批《庄子》。这一期间,其在《庄子》评语中所展现的自由观,一方面表现出严复对自由观的持守与不变,另一方面也体现出他在晚年对自由观思想的又一开拓,将西方意义下的自由与庄子的论述融汇互释,肯定庄子著作中有自由思想。 At the beginning of the 20th century, the current situation in China was very uncertain. Social turmoil and extreme depressing Yan Fu began to criticize Zhuangzi. During this period, the concept of freedom that he presented in Zhuangzi’s comment shows Yan Fu’s adherence to and upholding of the concept of freedom on the one hand, and on the other hand his further exploration of the concept of freedom in his later years. The freedom in the western sense and Chuang Tzu ’s argument are merged with each other, affirming the free thinking in Zhuangzi’ s writings.
