Through a simple action, it tells me that the difference between animals and humans is not that great. In fact, I don’t like animals when I’m walking, and all my writhing and crawling things fascinate me. So when a friend invited me to visit a farm in Kenya in 1956, I took it as an excellent opportunity. I went straight to the London film studio where I worked and gave me this notice. I was 23 at the time and it may be a bit reckless to do so, but I am going to Africa. I have read so many books about Africa. In order to make up for the cost of this trip, I moved back to my parents’ home and I worked as a maid.
