A little boy walked into a department store, and headed directly to the lady’s underwear1 sec-tion. He asked the sales clerk shyly, “Mother’s day is coming, and I want to buy Mom a slip2. I saved some money delivering3 newspapers.”
“A bunch of new styles just arrived. I’m sure she’ll love it,” the sales lady saidencouragingly, “What size do you want?”
“Size...” the kid looked embarrassed, “I don’t know.”
“That is fine. Tell me, is your mom tall or short, fat or thin?” the kind lady asked. “I can help you decide.”
“My Mom is perfect. She is neither tall nor short, neither fat nor thin,” the boy answered proudly.
So, the sales clerk picked a size 34 and the boy went home delighted.
But the sales clerk didn’t know the other part of the story. That perfect mother has kept the slip in the top drawer, but has never put it on for more than twenty years.I’m the happy woman, and I wear size 52.
