Jack Kerouac’s masterpiece, The Beat Pieces “on the road” records the unruly life of the “Beat Generation”: wandering aimlessly on the road with alcohol, sex, Jazz and even drugs, the hidden reality behind the decadent life is actually the “beaten generation”’s resistance to the pent-up society after the World War II and the pursuit of extreme spiritual freedom. In the beaten-down life, musical orgy is a quintessential side of its quest for spiritual relief and ultimate excitement. This article starts from the jazz concert scene “On the Road”, and combines with Carnival of Bakhtin and Nietzsche’s Bacchanalism in light of other scenes of carnivalesque life in “The Beat Generation” Revealed and elaborated on the ultimate goal of life hidden behind Beatles’ life shown in the book.
