Objective To understand the characteristics of sexual behavior of female sex workers in community and the influencing factors of condom use, and provide evidence for the prevention and control strategies of STD / AIDS in community. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on all female sex workers admitted to commercial activities in a town in central Guangdong Province to find out the social, economic and cultural factors influencing the use of condoms in AIDS-related knowledge, attitudes and behaviors and commercial behaviors. Results A total of 139 female sex workers in the community were surveyed. The average age was (21.0 ± 4.7) years old, with 91.5% of them having junior high and junior high school education or below, and the average sexual intercourse time was 18 years , The average age of commercial service work is 20 years. In the recent 7 days, there were 4 paid partners on average. Condom use was 86.2%, but only 23.2% was correctly used. The reasons for not using condoms in commercial sex are mainly “guests do not want to use” and “fixed regular customers”. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the factors influencing condom use were education (OR = 14.519, P <0.01). Conclusions Female sex workers in community have low rates of commercial sexual behavior, high frequency and low rate of using condom properly. The educational level is the influencing factor of condom use. Publicity and education on STD / AIDS and the proper use of condoms should be strengthened to reduce and prevent the spread of STD / AIDS to the general population through sexually transmitted diseases.
