On the afternoon of Dec. 23， 2017， the Consulate General of Lao People's Democratic Republic in Changsha， capital city of China's Hunan Province， was officially opened. Du Jiahao， Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress， attended the opening ceremony. Saleumxay Kommasith， the minister of foreign affairs of Laos， attended the opening ceremony and unveiled the consulate general.
The Laos Consulate General in Changsha is the first consulate general to be located in Hunan since the founding of the People's Republic of China. The consular district will include the provinces of Hunan， Hubei， Henan and Guizhou. The consulate will promote cultural and tourism exchanges and cooperation in investment， trade and education between Laos and central China.
