Translation is a cultural activity. The translator’s translation strategies are influenced by their attitudes toward the source culture and the target culture, which in turn affects the final result of the translation. An analysis of one translated version of “Late Shaohua” in twelve pieces of A Dream of Red Mansions shows that from the point of view of English readers, the translation of Yang’s couple adopts the alienation strategy, that is, faithful to the source language culture and mode of expression. Sri Lankan translation uses a naturalization strategy that is close to the target language. Alienation is faithful to the source culture, but it increases the difficulty of understanding for the target readers. Domestication is easy for the reader to understand and narrows their horizons. Therefore, the two strategies should be organically combined It is more conducive to the communication of meaning and cultural exchange.
