Puccinia striiformis f.sp.tritici (Pst), as an obligate biotroph, obtains nutrients from the host and releases various effectors into host cells to influence host metabolism and host immunity through haustoria, a specialized structure developed within the host cells. In this study, based on the completed Pst haustorium transcriptome, the haustoria expressed secreted proteins were identified and systematically screend for haustorium-specific effectors of Pst.Among 65 candidate effectors screened, thirty-two (about 51%) could suppress BAX-trigged programmed cell death (PCD) in Nicotianabenthamiana. When delivered into wheat cells via a bacterial type-Ⅲ secretion system, eighteen of them were able to reduce the callose accumulation significantly, indicating their PTI suppression activity.
