The paper titled"The impact of refugees on the host countries economy:a long term analysis"focused on investigating the long term economic impact of refugee on the hostcountry. Thus the immigration of refugees across borders has presented conflictingeconomic outcomes. Some studies support the economic significance of hosting refugeesand other do not,but consider refugees as an economic burden.Henceforth the differencein conclusion presented a gap in literature. As such the paper analysed the nexus byfocusing on the impact of an increase in refugees on the host countrys economic growthand unemployment rate.As an innovation the paper considered both time series and paneldata, and focused on countries from different continents to give a proper comparison.
Following the ordinary least square model, the paper discovered that amongcontinents the impact differed between countries, with some winners and losers.Additionally the pane regression results revealed that among the continents, the Europeanregion is benefiting more from hosting refugees.Differently the robustness test confirmedthe significance of refugees on the host countries economic growth. Also the robustnesstest results also confirms the already prevailing understanding that in countries withhigher integration level, refugees contributes positively to economic growth. In all theestimated results goes in line with the immigration theory that an increase in refugeeshave a robust effect on the host country economic growth. The paper recommendscountries increase resettlement policies and integration laws to foster the full integration.
