Objective To explore and analyze the effects of partial androgen deficiency on bone mineral density (BMD), hypertension and diabetes in middle-aged and elderly men. Methods Fifty-androgen-deficient male patients admitted to our hospital were selected as the experimental group. Another 53 male patients with normal androgen content were selected as the control group. The BMD of the femoral neck and lumbar spine were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Then the levels of hormones, biochemical markers and some bone metabolic parameters were collected for analysis. Results There were more patients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis in the experimental group than those in the control group. The BMD in the control group was more than that in the experimental group (P <0.05). Conclusion The middle-aged and elderly men with androgen deficiency are obviously lower in BMD, prone to osteoporosis fracture, and easily lead to hypertension and diabetes. Necessary measures should be taken to prevent them.
