2002年1月,我在粤北农村调查时,发现清代民居建筑中的祠堂大门口,有些摆设有石雕艺术作品抱鼓石。现选择一对比较典型的抱鼓石进行初步的研究。这对抱鼓石座落在一间建于清代后期的宗族祠堂大门口左右两端,由石门枕和石鼓组合而成,红色砂岩凿刻的。这种石材质地不够坚硬,容易风化。雕刻技术主要是用阴雕和浮雕两种方法。大小形式相同,花纹有同有异。石鼓安装在石门枕之上形成一个整体,民间统称抱鼓石。(见下图)
