Objective To investigate the significance of serum α1-microglobulin (α1-MG), homocysteine (Hcy) and cystatin C (Cys C) in the detection of type 2 diabetic nephropathy (DN). Methods The serum level of α1-MG, Hcy and Cys C in 97 type 2 diabetic patients and 32 healthy controls from March 2011 to February 2012 were measured. Diabetic patients were divided into clinical diabetic nephropathy group (A group) 33 cases, early diabetic nephropathy group (B group) 35 cases and simple diabetic group (C group) 29 cases. Results Serum levels of α1-MG, Hcy and Cys C in diabetic group were significantly higher than those in healthy controls (P <0.05). The levels of α1-MG, Hcy and Cys C in serum were increased in groups C, B and A The difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Conclusion Serum levels of α1-MG, Hcy and Cys C in patients with DN are significantly increased, and are closely related to the development of the disease.
