John and Jane are both deskmates and good friends. On Sunday afternoon, they came to a secondhand bookstore.
Suddenly, Jane said: “Look, John, what an old book! There was one same old book in my Mum’s bookcase.”
John picked up the book and said: “Wow—Pinocchio’s Story, my Dad told me about it before.” John bought the book, then they read the book with great interest.
When they read page 10, some words came to their eyes:
Good book,good book!
I have one,
and you have one.
Jack
On page 30,some words appeared again:
Two good friends
stay together,
You help me,
and I help you.
Ruth”.
Like this, when they read twenty pages, there would be some words appeared. At the page of ninety, the story came to an end, and the signature became two full names: “Jack·Smith” and “Ruth·Clark”.
Jane and John pointed at the signature, they yelled at the same time.
“It is my Mum’s name!”
“It is my Dad’s name!”
“Isn’t it——”
John and Jane looked at each other, both said,
“Did my Dad know your Mum in their childhood?”
“Did my Mum know your Dad in their childhood?”
The finding was really excited to both John and Jane.
John and Jane decided to keep it secret from Dad Jack and Mum Ruth. Then found a chance to let them have an exciting get-together after thirty years.
As you guessed what’s going on next. When Dad Jack met Mum Ruth at the cafeteria, both felt very, very excited.
They stayed there for a long time and then Mum shouted loudly with a surprise, “oh, Jack, my nice deskmate!”, and Dad also said gladly, “Ha-ha, Ruth, you didn’t change a lot!”
t turned out that John’s Dad and Jane’s Mum were deskmate in their childhood. On the first day of becoming deskmate, they went to the bookstore and bought the book of Pinocchio’s Story. But once moving home, Dad lost the book.
A pair of “big deskmate” and a pair of “small deskmate” paid a visit to Jane’s home. Mum Ruth took the book of Pinocchio’s Story from her bookcase and handed it to Jane carefully, saying, “Now, it’s yours…”
