Researchers found that even with the HIV epidemic, very high tuberculosis rates in developing countries could keep the tuberculosis epidemic in these countries under control. Sally Blower, professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, said in an interview that the study first quantified the impact of the HIV epidemic on the outbreak of tuberculosis and confirmed how high tuberculosis treatment rates actually prevented such synergies.
