According to the American Journal, in an effort to improve the quality of scientific and engineering research through its Experimental Research Program for Competitive Studies (EPSCOR), the National Science Foundation reports to Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi and South Dakota New research grants were provided separately. The EPSCOR program, established in 1978, now includes 16 states and Puerto Rico.
