In April 2014, Zhengzhou, Henan Province witnessed the signing ceremony for the China-Nigeria Chinese textbooks publishing cooperation. Publishing agencies in China and Nigeria will introduce more than 300 kinds of publications in forms like books, CDs, e-books, electronic dictionaries and video teaching software among which publications on international Chinese education account for two thirds, to African countries in the following three years.
The cooperation agreement signed by the Henan Science and Technology Press and Ruihabu Limited Company, a culture and media institution of Nigeria, is the biggest cultural exchange and publishing cooperation project between the Henan Province of China and Nigeria in recent years. The cooperative areas will include Chinese characters civilization, Chinese kungfu, Chinese medicine, Chinese porcelain, tea culture and ancient Chinese garden architecture. Wherein, “learning Chinese with traditional Chinese artisan craftsmanship” is a key publishing project. It attempts to help Chinese learners learn Chinese in a relaxing atmosphere with traditional Chinese paper-cut craft which will help students learn about Chinese culture at the same time.
Benjamin Wesley, CEO of the Nigeria Ruihabu Limited Company, says that they look forward to more exchanges and cooperation with China in technology, culture and academic publishing in the future. In this way, African people can have a better understanding of China through education and books. He also expresses his expectations for China to open more offices and Chinese schools in Nigeria’s universities in order to enable more of the Nigerian students to learn Chinese as it is in other countries like America, Turkey and India.
