The GHM hydrocarbon analyzer was used to analyze the crude oil produced during different stages of the waterflood simulation experiment to study the variation of crude oil composition and to explore the inherent relationship between crude oil composition and recovery. The experimental results show that there is a good correspondence between the degree of recovery of crude oil and the PV number of the produced fluid. With the gradual increase of recovery, the carbon number range and peak carbon number of normal paraffins in crude oil gradually shift, Heavy ratio showed a downward trend. Experiments also show that some spatially cylindrical, regularly branched molecules are more likely to be driven out than straight-chain molecules with similar carbon numbers. This study is of practical significance for further exploring oil displacement mechanism and enhancing oil recovery from a micro perspective
