三门峡西站位于陇海线K835+936处,地处河南省西部黄土丘陵地区,地形起伏较大,黄土冲沟发育。地表出露为第四系更新统(Q3)浅黄色黄土质砂粘土,具I级湿陷性。三门峡西站路基沉陷区段处于站场两端,其中心里程为K835+740和K836+022。东沉陷区长120多米,西沉陷区长60多米,均横穿整个站场。沉降量最大处位于Ⅰ-Ⅱ站台间。据三门峡西工务段介绍,两处沉降区本为二条黄土冲沟,50年代修建三门峡水库,铁路改线在此填沟修建铁路,填方厚达20多米,运营中因两处路基沉陷,影响行车安全,每年均要起道填入道碴,站台也因此多次加
