John Bell (Travel Journalist): I don’t think there’s any country in the world that understands romance more than Cuba.
Simon Calder (Travel Editor): Sure there’s a lot of noise, and 1)hustle and hastle sometimes, but it’s very easy to escape to get into the back streets of old Havana.
John Bell (Travel Journalist): Romance round every corner and, a good drink around every corner, the 2)ambience, the 3)atmosphere, just to 4)drink it in. There’s nothing more romantic in the world and possibly if you remember it, there’s some romance about where Cuba comes from. There has to be something romantic about a revolution. The Cuban revolution is now over 50 years old, but still we have pictures of Che Guevara on our walls; still we watch Fidel smoking his large cigar. There is something there that we want to be involved in. There’s some freesome romance about the whole thing.

Tourist: Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, and the whole 1959 revolution definitely adds a lot to a lot of people’s holiday. It really is just like stepping back in time.
Simon Calder : Basically the place hasn’t been touched for 50 years,so it is falling down a bit but it looks absolutely great.
Lynn Hughes (Travel Editor): While you’re there, you are thrown back almost into this sort of lost 5)bygone age. You almost feel as if you are taking part in an 6)Bogart and Lauren Becall film as you wander around the streets with all the old 7)crumbling 8)colonial buildings.
One of the most romantic things about Havana is the music. Every restaurant, every square, you can guarantee there’ll be music and it makes this wonderful soundtrack to your romance.

Narrator: Time seems to have stood still since 9)Ernest Hemmingway used to 10)sip 11)mojitos in the Bodego Del Medio. On the roads, the 1950s Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles and Buicks give Havana the same seepy attentive feel.
John Bell: Crumbling buildings, American cars that you never ever dreamt of, nothing is more romantic but take my advice, and get there quick.
