Well, the old saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” A 13-year-old girl picked up on that 1)notion, converting juice bags into a stylish 2)carryall. KCAL-9’s Suzy Suh. She joins us live with this 3)crafty and 4)lucrative invention. Suzy.
Suzy: Thirteen-year-old McKenzie Davidson loves purses. In fact, when she goes to the mall with her Mom, she says “Mom, I want this purse. I want that purse.” But her Mom usually tells her, “McKenzie, you have too many purses already.” Well now, she’s making her own.
With all the juice bags that you drink this summer, McKenzie Davidson says, help her turn trash into cash. When the 13-year-old is not at school or playing soccer, she’s 5)pedaling away on her sewing machine; every 6)stitch, every 7)seam, a 8)patch closer to her dreams of being a fashion designer.
McKenzie: First we drink them, wash them out, tape them together. We sew the parts together and then you have a purse.
Suzy: Perhaps it’s the 9)entrepreneur blood that runs in her family.
McKenzie: My dad and his dad and then my grandpa and his son…
Suzy: …or her love for the environment. Hence her label, “Trash E Fashions.”
McKenzie: We always learned about that and it’s like, “Oh, try and recycle,” and “we have recycle bins at school.” It’s a different way to recycle.
Suzy: Whatever the case, customers can’t seem to get enough of the purse products selling here on the frat.com, at $30 a 10)pop, or 11)juice.
An idea inspired by friends, a 12)Home-Ec. teacher, and some sewing lessons, is securing a busy summer vacation…and future for this teen, who believes 13)rubbish is all the 14)rage.
McKenzie: You can do anything, like, just put your mind to it and you can achieve it.
Suzy: And just one more note. Last year, McKenzie designed clothing for a fashion show using newspaper, plastic bags and straws. Very creative.

麦肯齐：我们总是听到这类话，比如：“哦，尝试循环使用吧”，“我们学校有回收桶”等，而这是用不同的方法回收利用。
苏西：不管怎样，这种手袋在这个大学生联谊网上的售价30美元一“罐”，这似乎还供不应求。当然，还有这里面的果汁包装盒啦。
这是一个受朋友、家政课老师及一些缝纫课程启发而形成的想法，它将令麦肯齐的这个暑假及未来过得忙碌而充实……这位女孩相信用垃圾做成的产品正风靡一时。
麦肯齐：你可以做任何事情，只要用心做，就能够达到目的。
苏西：再多讲一件事，去年，麦肯齐曾用报纸、塑料袋及禾秆为一台时装展设计服装。非常有创意。
