【Abstract】Early Chinese mermaid is very different from the Foreign mermaid. After thousands years of evolution, it became the beautiful mermaid that attract us more and more.

There are many legends about the mermaid, not only we are familiar with the “daughter of the Sea”, ancient China also bred a unique and wonderful mermaid image.
I. Foreign mermaid story
Western legends of the Mermaid have men and women, the earliest as the appearance of God. The Goddess of love and beauty Venus was born from the bubble of the sea, sometimes turned into fish, which can be said to be the first form of the combination of Western “human” and “fish”.
Homer’s “Odyssey” mentioned enchantress Siren:“She has a woman’s chest and head, with bird feet or fishtail, with two wings or no wings. They use the attractive song temptation navigator, so that they become a victim of cruel Siren.”
In German legends and poems, mermaids are often mentioned. She was the daughter of the Rhine, living on a huge rock in the river, a beautiful blonde with a beautiful voice. In the fairy tale of the Danish writer Andersen, the little mermaid in the daughter of the sea, is a concentrated expression of the legend of the West Mermaid. The little mermaid everywhere reveal Western myths and legends in the shadow.
II. The Mermaid in Chinese mythology
Many ancient Chinese myths are recorded in the Book of the “Mountains and Seas”, and the Mermaid in it is divided into “Red mackerel, Human fish, Ling fish, Di Ren (or Hu Ren), Fish woman” and several types.
The description about Red mackerel, Human fish, Ling fish is simple in the plot, and, the most outstanding characteristic about this three is their animality.
