Objective To explore the relationship between smoking and resistin levels. Methods A total of 1258 subjects (439 males and 819 females) in Shijingshan District of Beijing were enrolled in this study. The prevalence of smoking, drinking, physical activity, blood pressure, blood lipids, blood glucose and other cardiovascular risk factors were collected systematically in 2005 , And the level of plasma resistin in the study population was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results The median plasma levels of resistin in male nonsmokers, quit smokers and smokers were 2.78 ng / ml, 2.60 ng / ml and 2.25 ng / ml, respectively (P = 0.0034). Median resistin levels were 2.98 ng / ml, 2.96 ng / ml and 2.56 ng / ml, respectively (P = 0.0035) in female nonsmokers, smokers and smokers. Smokers had significantly lower body mass index and waist circumference than non-smokers. The linear regression results showed that both men and women smoked cigarettes when controlling age, drinking, drinking tea, physical activity, systolic blood pressure, serum total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood glucose and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein There was still a significant association between the levels of resistin and resistin, however, with further control of BMI or waist circumference in the model, the association between smoking and resistin levels was significantly diminished and no longer statistically significant. Conclusion There is a significant association between smoking and resistin levels, which may be mainly related to the lower body weight of smokers.
