1989年全国高考语文有一道从《九章算术》中选材的试题:“竹原高一丈,末折着地,去本三尺,问竹还高几何?”要求考生从四幅图中选出符合题意的一幅来。此题虽只占全卷总分的1/120 ,但细细品偿,令人不禁叫绝! 此题之妙处大致有四: 综合性,考查运用能力。这道题说难又简单,其实只考了四个字:“本”、“末”、“去”“还”,却起码综合了三项关于字、词的基础知识,即《六书》中的“指事”、词的本义和后起义以及多音多义词。有的考生虽对许慎《六书》倒背如流,却将“末”误解为“根”,将“本”解释为
