“我上大学时，表演似乎是冒险的行当，我的朋友们都去读法学院、医学院或去华尔街了。”但这并没有改变温特沃什·米勒这个超级电视迷投身演艺事业的理想。这个生于英国，但在美国长大的多国混血儿成名前参加过480多次试镜，才获得一些出演跑龙套角色的机会。那段不如意的岁月在《越狱》的出现后顿然终结，他也一跃成为近年美剧人气高升的新一代冷峻都市型男的代表。

Host 1: And in this country, it’s become a huge hit. It’s sort of got like a 24 2)obsessive fan 3)vibe to it. Um, did you know it was going to be such a worldwide success or did you think it was going to be a lot more of a smaller project?
Miller: No, I thought, we had, we had a hook that would 4)appeal to people. Because A) it’s about family. It’s about how far one man is willing to go to save a loved one, which is something that anyone anywhere can relate to. But it’s also about prison, and I think people find prison 5)inherently 6)compelling…
Host 1: Yeah.
Miller:…It’s a real-life horror story, you know, it could in fact happen to you.
Host 1: I hope not. There is a rumor that you’re part African-American, Jamaican, English, German, French, Dutch, Syrian and Lebanese. Which one’s the lie? Which one’s for your image?
Miller: Actually, I think you forgot a few.
Host 1: Really?
Miller: But um, they’re all a part of who I am. Yes, that’s true.
Host 1: And you were actually born in England?
Miller: Yes, my parents are both American but they were living here and I was born in Chipping Norton, outside of Oxford.
Host 1: Because your name is very…it seems like a Lord: 7)Wentworth Miller III.
Miller: I think my great-grandmother got it out of a Jane Austen novel called Persuasion; there’s a Captain Wentworth, I think.
What Did I do?
Host 2: Now, uh, OK, so when you were at Princeton, we got a photograph; and tell us what we’re looking at here because this is you as part of a singing group. Tell us what the name of the singing group was.
Miller: Aahh, that’s the Princeton Tigertones.
Host 2: And where would you,…where would you perform, on campus or …?
Miller: We sang on campus and then every other summer we’d tour Europe for about six weeks.
Host 2: Aaahhh, now I understand.
Miller: … throw down the hat in the square and sing for our lunch money.
Host 2: For real?
Miller: Oh, yeah.
Host 2: Really! Wow! So you’d just go over there and then you’d be left to your own devices to make money, huh?
Miller: Oh, yeah. We actually 8)wound up in Jordan and Israel on one summer and sang at the…at the 9)July 4th party at the U.S. Embassy with Yitzhak Rabin.
Host 2: Really! Wow!
Miller: Yeah, it actually got kind of…kind of cool.
Host 2: Did he tip you?
What’s The Tattoo?
Host 2: This looks like, I mean you can see people and faces, but actually what is tattooed on your body here?
Miller: A little bit of 10)definition, apparently. The blueprints to the prison are…
Host 2: The blueprints.
Miller: …are woven into the tattoo that you see there.
Host 2: So, you can actually, if you want to, like, find the bathroom, you look at your 11)belly button and 12)navigate from there.
Miller: Yeah, (joking) that’s around the back.
Host 2: Now you guys are out of there, not only do you have the blueprints tattooed on you, but you have a whole bunch of other stuff on there too.
Miller: Yeah, the tattoo hasn’t gone away. It’s a really cool special effect, kind of one of the 13)centerpieces of the show.
Host 2: How did they put that whole thing on, ’cause you don’t have tattoos?
Miller: Yeah, it’s like 20 14)decals or 15)transfers that fit together like the pieces of a puzzle; takes about four hours to apply.
Host 2: And they get a guy with a huge tongue to lick it and then apply it?
Miller: That’s not in the budget.
Host 2: No?
Miller: …unfortunately.
Host 2: It takes four…do you have to put that on every day?
Miller: We do it once an 16)episode, ’cause it starts to 17)deteriorate after 24 hours, so we’ll put it on in the morning, shoot every scene that requires the tattoo that day, and 18)scrub it off at night.
