利用重力选矿法回收铁矿石,很早便已开始。例如在一九○七年建立的桌蒂湖选厂(Trout Lake Concentrator),利用一些简单的洗矿设备回收铁矿石,在其它地区也有类似的选厂建立。我国龙烟铁矿小吴营选厂,很早以前便使用梯形跳汰机等重选设备回收铁矿石。由于重选设备造价低廉,消耗动力较少,因此获得较广泛地应用。据统计在铁矿中有40%的铁精矿是用重选方法选出的,这些铁矿石主要是赤铁矿、假象赤铁矿、镜铁矿、褐铁矿和菱铁矿等。在铁矿石的精选中,目前使用的重选设备有螺旋选矿机和赖克特园锥选矿机(Reic-hert Conetrator),后者表现出有很大的优越性,目前已广泛使用。我国的离心选矿机也开始用于铁矿石的精选作业。螺旋选矿机在第二次世界大战以后首先在美国获得了广泛地应用。它所处理的矿石粒度和摇床一样,但二者所处理的颗粒形状是不相同的,片状颗粒用摇床处理较好,而球
