【Abstract】 The creative transformation from “ideological and political courses” to “ideological and political education in all courses” is an important way of guiding values orientation. Under such a background, ideological and political education becomes a new teaching task in all courses. This paper mainly discusses the implementation of ideological and political education in English teaching in higher vocational colleges, aiming to exploring effective teaching mechanism from the, perspective of combining ideological and political elements with language knowledge.

1. Overview of ideological and political education in English teaching
Integrating ideological and political elements with all kinds of subject courses is the outcome of education reform in the new period based on the demand of ideological and political education. Mainly treating morality as the fundamental task of education, it makes high requirements on teachers and teaching. Teachers should not only master the knowledge points of the curriculum, but also have a deep understanding of ideological and political elements. Teachers should permeate the ideological and moral education throughout teaching, which helps students to form a sound personality with excellent traditional virtues and spirit imperceptibly, and be able to practice the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Ideological and political education also plays a positive role in promoting the subject course teaching, especially English teaching, through which students can have a clearer understanding of the difference between Chinese and western cultures, take more pride in our excellent traditional culture, and consciously spread it. It can also stimulate teachers to continuously improve their ability to educate.
2. The implementation of ideological and political education in English teaching in higher vocational colleges
2.1 Explore the textbook
Higher vocational English textbook contains not only basic knowledge of English, but also rich cultural connotation. Therefore, teachers should not end at the level of language teaching, but explore the ideas conveyed by language. Teachers can first dig into the textbook and find out relevant elements of ideological and political education, and then integrate them into the socialist core values. In terms of “college life”, how to get along with others can be found to help students understand friendliness, respect and independence. When learning about money and consumption, teachers can link it to correct money and consumption view. 2.2
