A friend of mine wanted to lose some weight①.
He tried everything. He spent a whole day eating fi sh soup only.
Then he spent another day fasting②. Then he started to skip③ breakfast. Then, for an afternoon he had fruit only. Then only rice, for 12 hours.
But nothing would work. Big belly④, small arms.
"Why do you want to be skinnier?" I asked.
"I don’t really know, it’s just better." he replied.
And then he only had salad for a day. And then a Chinese takeaway⑤.
He didn’t know what he wanted, he only knew what he didn’t really want.
I like this quote⑥ from Lewis Carroll.
One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" was his response⑦.
  "I don’t know." Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn’t matter." Hard work is just a tool. But where do you actually⑧ want to go?
